Let’s all face the harsh reality…food is EXPENSIVE! Did you know that the average family spends on average $6-8,000 on food a year? It’s quite annoying really. Food costs go up, wages stay the same…the next year, food goes up and wages stay the same…annoying.

Have you ever watched Extreme Couponing on TLC and were envious of those ladies that seemed to have couponing powers? Would clip for only a few hours a few times a week and then walk into a grocery store and buy the whole store for a few bucks? Yeah..me too.

Well, I can tell you that you CAN save money without couponing, just by changing a few habits when you go shopping. You don’t need to spend countless hours clipping coupons. I will tell you how to do it, and it is surprisingly simple.

Before this month…yep, just started this month, my Husband and I were awful at budgeting. We recently started following Dave Ramsey, let me tell you something…he’s a game changer. Literally, a complete genius. Of course, we aren’t religious followers of him down to a T, there are a few things that we don’t agree with…but for the most part, he’s changed the way we think of things in regards to our money. I HIGHLY recommend reading his book the way you spend money will change.

We never had a budget. We never followed or kept track of where our money went. This month, we did and I have to tell you, we will be doing it from now on. I actually made a budget and stuck to it and I am elated! Here we are, two days before August and I managed to spend under our budget for groceries. We budgeted $400 for groceries and I still have $42.23 left. This is for a family of 5! We don’t scrimp on meat, or buy in bulk, and I do not use coupons. So how did I manage to do it? I’ll tell you.

Grocery Pick-up

Yep, that’s it. No coupon clipping, bulk shopping, sales. This. Is. It. We literally went from easily spending $7-900 a month down to under $400 month for a family of 5!! I really am super happy that we did it. We made a budget and stuck to it.

Yes, at first I was skeptical of the whole online shopping thing. I hate the fact that other people would be picking out my fruit, veggies, meat..and so on. Frankly the thought made me cringe.

But, then I kept thinking of all the times I went into the store needing two things, and came out with half the store and $200 in the hole. Probably on things I didn’t need. Probably on things that we didn’t use and ended up on the trash.

Then, the thought of all my money going to waste made me cringe and I knew we needed to do something different.

So, I took the plunge and ordered online at Walmart, scheduled a pick-up, and got my order! It was seriously the easiest thing I’ve ever done. Super convenient, super user friendly, and saved me money!!

So, there you have it, how I managed to save over $200/month on my grocery bill. I went from going into the store and impulse buying everything, spending way too much money on things I didn’t need, to online shopping and only ordering what I need for the week.
