I absolutely love to do arts/crafts this time of year. So, it is perfect that we are expecting a little girl anytime in the next few weeks.
I love FALL! Leaves falling, smells, cooler weather! All of it. A little off topic…
Anyways, when I found out we were expecting a little girl, I was super excited about all the DIY’s I could do to decorate her room. There are endless things you can do for a little girls nursery. But, I have to do it all on a budget. Because, i’m not rich, and I can’t afford to spend a lot of money on craft supplies.
So, if you are like me and like to dabble in a little arts/crafts on a budget, this post is for you!!

Our baby’s colors are mint green and lavender purple. I just love these two together, just so pretty. I didn’t
want to do the cliche of pink’s, so I really am happy with these two colors.
To save money, we re-used the crib that was my Son’s so all we needed was to buy our bedding. I really LOVE the bedding. Purple, pink, gold elephants. It was really the only one that we could find that matched, even though it didn’t have much green. So I had to incorporate the mint with other decorations.
You can find our bedding set here!
To incorporate the mint green, I decided to do my own canvas art. I really love to do canvas art. It allows me to get my creative side going and really see what I can come up with.
It’s cheap, easy, and so cute!
All you need is canvas’, which I buy the bundles at Hobby Lobby for like $10/for 3 pieces, some acrylic paint, paint brushes of course, and some modge podge for after.
For inspiration, of course I turn to Pinterest. So, that is where I found the ideas for the elephants, which is her theme animal. I really love how they turned out.
Sorry, for my picture quality, I just couldn’t get them right. 🙁
Just for kicks, I did this canvas too a while back, and just haven’t had a place to put it.
This baby and my son, who is 4 will be sharing a room. So, when my Husband redid their closet, I decided to put it right smack in the middle of their closet. I love it!!
Next, I incorporated some wood letters and, of course painted them fun colors. You can get these wooden letters for cheap and any store. I think these were like .95 cents at Walmart.
And, there is another canvas that my super sweet Cousin painted for her. Isn’t it super cute?
The last thing we did was hang some fun lavender and mint green puff balls in the corner of her nursery, you can see that in the first picture. My baby shower host had these at the shower, and we just saved them for this purpose. I think it adds just a little more cuteness and elegance to her nursery. You can find these at any craft store. All you have to do is puff them out and add string to them.
One of the other things I have done for the new baby, which is not a nursery item, is I decided to make her own milestone blanket. I’ve never done one, but I decided, what the heck?!
So I bought a receiving blanket, in purple, some black fabric puffy paint, and some stencil numbers/letters.
I didn’t use the letters, and just hand wrote her name, but I did use the numbers, because they were perfect size.
The blanket didn’t turn out perfect, but I don’t think it turned out bad. At least for my first time. And, it will work. 🙂
Well, there you have it. If you can’t afford to really buy a bunch of stuff for a nursery, turn to DIY. It’s cheap, easy, and fun. Plus, I think more sentimental. The best part, is you really don’t have to be creative or crafty in order to do this.
What have you done lately that was really crafty? Drop a comment below and let me know!! As always, please pin and share if you enjoyed this post!!
